Providing champions with the training and tools needed to grow and thrive, through online courses, live sessions, and peer-to-peer learning.
TOPIC
Investment Readiness
Local enterprises and community-based organizations need to clearly demonstrate their value, impact, and financial management skills to attract funding. Restore Local provides cohorts of champions with hands-on training to articulate their vision, understand what it takes to raise grants, debt, and equity investments, and prepare high-quality financial documentation.
Built with five years of experience training restoration enterprises, Restoration Business Basics organizes these insights into a crash course on running a successful enterprise that restores land. Restore Local will deepen this offer with practical training on how champions can access funding for the measurable results of restoration, like trees, carbon, and biodiversity.
TOPIC
Communications
Champions are passionate storytellers. Every community, every tree has a unique restoration journey. But it’s hard to summarize those narratives into bite-sized pieces that inspire community members, financiers, and government partners to act. Restore Local provides champions with easy-to-use online resources and training to create compelling content and share it with the world. Through a free online toolkit hosted on Canva,
Restore Local helps champions build their own social media posts, banners, and web content to show their alignment with this growing movement. As the brand spreads, the curriculum will expand to cover storytelling techniques, visual content creation, and stakeholder engagement strategies that amplify the visibility of champions’ work and strengthen the restoration movement through powerful, authentic communication.

TOPIC
Restoration Techniques
Traditional knowledge and the latest science are the cornerstones of high-quality, locally led restoration. Restore Local is working with experts in ecology, social equity, and community mobilization to spread culturally appropriate restoration techniques to the most people in the shortest time. Learning forums, checklists, and video lectures will introduce champions to
the techniques their peers use to revitalize local ecosystems, enable food and nutrition security, select tree species, design inclusive projects that ensure fair access to resources, and apply sustainable land management practices. The power of peer-to-peer learning is the key to success: When champions teach and learn from each other, the movement spreads.
TOPIC
Monitoring
Restoration champions do their work because of its impact on people, nature, and the climate, but they struggle to communicate the impact of their work. That’s why Restore Local has trained 200 champions how to submit high-quality reports and draw geospatial boundaries around their restoration sites. Featured on the TerraMatch Dashboard,
this data is helping champions and funders see how their work is achieving the social and ecological impact that communities need. Through online how-to videos and step-by-step instructions tested on the ground, Restore Local will provide champions with the essential tools to track their work – and tell the world.
